Kingdom of Heaven is directed by Ridley Scott. The film was released in theaters with a runtime of 144 minutes. Later that year, Ridley Scott released a director’s cut of the film with a runtime of 189 minutes. The director’s cut was met with critical acclaim and is considered by many to be the definitive version of the film.
Edward Norton played the role of King Baldwin. Because the King appears behind a mask, the actor requested not to be credited. However, his name was put back in the video releases of the film.
The movie makers built three huge siege towers, 60-foot tall each, for the movie, using technology available back in the day. Each tower was really heavy, weighing 25 tons. For a scene where multiple towers crash down, they actually toppled one real tower on the film set and shot it from 11 different spots. Various footage of this single tower’s fall were edited together to create the illusion that many towers were falling, each in a different style and direction.
